Prosecutor Who Dropped Charges Against Smollett Believes He’s Guilty

The Prosecutor who dropped the charges against Jussie Smollett has said he believes Smollett lied to the police about the hate crime in January.

Joe Magats, who surprisingly cleared Smollett of all charges yesterday, said Smollett was not innocent like some people were claiming.

“We believe he did what he was charged with doing,” Magats said. “This was not an exoneration. To say he was exonerated by us or anyone else is not true. There are plenty of other cases — over 5,700 that have gotten some type of alternative or deferred type of prosecution involving a dismissal at the end of the case. To think that there is some type of infirmity or something that we learned about the case or something that we don’t want aired is not true.”

Magats also said the charges were dropped in exchange of 16 hours of community service and forfeiture of a $10,000 bond.

It is highly absurd that Smollett wouldn’t be going to jail. Committing a hate crime or faking one should carry the same punishment: jail time. If a Trump supporter really assaulted Smollett, would they have let the Trump supporter go in exchange for community service? I think every honest person knows the answer to that question.

This Smollett spectacle goes to show that there is no such thing as “white privilege” in America. There might be liberal privilege or gay privilege or celebrity privilege, but there’s no white privilege.
